Stephen Sondheim is a distinguished innovator of 20th musical theatre who, having discovered synthesis of drama and music, turned the musical upside down, bringing it closer to opera. His musicals surprise with their unusual, shocking stories, intriguing personages and bold solutions. Sondheim's objective is to get the audience involved in the performance, so that they forget that history can be sung! His most popular epic musical thriller “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” was immortalised in a film by the director Tim Burton last year. The perfect unity between music and drama makes “Sweeney Todd” a very visual and modern performance.
