Gianluigi Trovesi - piccolo and alto clarinets
Gianni Coscia - accordion
Italian jazz in ArtScape is presented by an unusual duo - saxophonist and clarinettist Gianluigi Trovesi, one of the most remarkable Italian jazz musicians, will pursue his musical vision together with accordionist Gianni Coscia. Inventive, emotional and provocative duo plays virtuoso music saturated with an array of influences - from jazz roots and classical music to pop and folk tradition.
Gianluigi Trovesi is a member of Instable Orchestra, the legendary Italian jazz star aggregation, as well as Giorgio Gaslini Quintet. He performs diverse music from jazz and academic to dance and pop. As a music archaeologist he investigates various musical idioms and as an alchemist he fuses European classical and Italian folk music into jazz amalgams. He claims, that jazz for him is not just a river, but a wide delta flooded by myriads of musical streams.
Having made his debut as a leader in 1977, G. Trovesi has been actively involved on Italian and international scenes with his Trio, Quintet, Octet and Roccellanea ensemble. Since the beginning of the 90s he was repeatedly voted the best Italian jazz musician, the leader of the best Italian group and the composer of the best Italian album. He performs not only with his own collectives, but also appears, tours and records with improvised music coryphées such as Anthony Braxton, Misha Mengelberg, Steve Lacy, John Carter, Han Bennink, Mark Dresser, Tony Oxley, Günter Sommer, Horace Tapscott, Evan Parker and Kenny Wheeler.
Featured on ArtScape his duo with accordionist Gianni Coscia is ranked among the most successful European jazz duos.
