BEL CANTO CHOIR

The choir, a musical retreat for about seventy men and women dedicated to choral singing, was established in 2009 in Vilnius. The year 2013 proved to be particularly successful for the group as Bel Canto won the first prize and several special awards at the Stasys Šimkus International Choral Competition in Klaipėda and was named Lithuania’s best amateur choir.
Its success continued into 2014 when Bel Canto took a gold medal at the World Choir Games in Riga, Latvia. Later that year the choir travelled to South Korea to take part in an international choral contest in Busan. Bel Canto’s most recent international appearances include its participation in one of Europe’s top choral competitions in Tolosa, Spain.
Bel Canto is the first Lithuanian choir to present its official YouTube channel and to publish its recordings on Spotify, iTunes, and Amazon. Bel Canto became the nation’s first choir to earn a place in the Lithuanian Book of Records after a marathon performance at the National Philharmonic in Vilnius at the end of 2015 which stretched over three consecutive nights and drew in nearly 2,000 listeners.
In December 2016, the choir gave a concert in Vilnius together with Eric Whitacre, the Grammy-winning American composer and the creator of the Virtual Choir.
