THE JAUNA MUZIKA CHOIR

Widely regarded as one of the best choirs in Lithuania, Jauna Muzika, established in 1989, gives about 60 performances at home and abroad every year. The group has been led by Vaclovas Augustinas, a distinguished Lithuanian conductor and composer, since 1992.
The choir took part in sixteen international competitions between 1990 and 1996 winning fifteen of them. The year 1993 saw Jauna Muzika celebrating its greatest international success as the choir was awarded the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing in Varna, Bulgaria.
Jauna Muzika has toured many European countries as well as China, Japan, and Israel giving concerts at world-famous venues, such as the Philharmony Halls in Berlin and Munich, the Old Opera in Frankfurt, the Queen Elisabeth Hall in London, the Rachmaninov Hall in Moscow, the Shanghai Grand Theatre, and the Concertgebouw Brugge.
The choir has taken part in a number of renowned festivals and other musical events and has shared stage with celebrated directors and orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Israel Philharmonic, the Jerusalem Symphony, the Israeli Camerata, the Virtuosos of Moscow, and the Saint Petersburg Camerata.
As a member of the International Federation for Choral Music, Jauna Muzika took part in the Fifth World Symposium of Choral Music in Rotterdam in 1999.
Officially the Choir of Vilnius Municipality, the group has launched a number of significant musical initiatives, including master classes with internationally acclaimed conductors and Vox Juventutis, a choral music competition for young Lithuanian composers.
The choir’s landmark performances over the past decade include the premiere of DaliGala, a zarzuela-style opera by Herkus Kunčius and Giedrius Kuprevičius (2008), a concert with the Stavanger Brass Band for the European Capital of Culture Programme in Vilnius (2009), a recording of ten new choral compositions dedicated to one of the country’s most venerated composers, Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (2011), a performance of the Mass in B minor by Bach together with the Rhineland-Palatinate State Philharmonic (2012), a performance of Metai (The Year), an opera by Bronius Kutavičius, at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris (2104), a concert for the 25th anniversary of the choir (2015), a performance of Kantrimusik and Mitternachtsstük by Mauricio Kagel at the Concertgebouw Brugge (2015), and the staging of Semele by Händel in Vilnius (2017).

DARIUS MAŽINTAS

Musicality and original interpretations have earned Darius the place among Lithuania’s most promising pianists. He has won prizes in several international competitions and has played dozens of recitals at home and abroad, including performances in Germany, France, Italy, Russia, Sweden, the Netherlands, and the United States. He is a keen performer of chamber music and, apart from that, he organises educational and charity projects on a regular basis.
