LUKAS GENIUŠAS

“He plays with a prizewinner’s brilliance, yet with a mature ability to recreate a work’s architecture, and an expressiveness that doesn’t overtly draw attention to itself,” wrote The Guardian about one of Lithuania’s young piano talents.
Born in Moscow in 1990 into a family of musicians, Lukas started piano studies at the age of five and, before his twentieth birthday, has won several international prizes, including the Gina Bachauer Piano Competition in Utah and the Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw. His most recent and perhaps the most important achievement is the silver medal he won at the XV Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 2015.
A musician of broad artistic interest, Lukas explores a remarkably versatile repertoire ranging from Baroque compositions and Beethoven to Hindemith and very recent works. In addition to that, Lukas has always shown a considerable interest in Russian piano music by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, and Prokofiev.
Some of the highlights of his 2017/18 season include recitals at festivals in La Roque D’Antheron and Verbier and début performances at the Frick Collection in New York and the Schloss-Elmau Festival. Important forthcoming engagements also include performances with Alexander Vedernikov and Odense Philharmonic Orchestra as well as recitals in Tokyo and Macau.
Since 2015, Lukas has been a featured artist of Looking at the Stars, a Toronto-based philanthropy project aimed at bringing live classical music to prisons, hospitals and shelters.
