SERGEY MALOV

Calling Sergey Malov (b. 1983) a violinist would not be accurate as the Leningrad-born virtuoso has already mastered three more string instruments. Brought up in the family of musicians, he left home to study at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. He went on to win major international competitions on two instruments: the violin (Heifetz 2008, Mozart 2010, Michael Hill 2011) and the viola (Tokyo 2010).

His interest in historically-informed performance led him to study the Baroque violin and, more recently, the cello da spalla. Today he successfully combines all the four instruments in recitals, concerts and recordings.

As a remarkably versatile performer, Malov is a frequent guest at festivals and musical projects of very different concepts throughout the world. His unusually rich repertoire includes solo instrumental works representing almost all epochs, from Giovanni Gabrieli and Johann Sebastian Bach to Béla Bartók and Alfred Schnittke.

As a soloist, he has played with some of the world’s finest orchestras, including the London Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony, the Bavarian Radio Symphony, and the Helsinki Philharmonic. As far as the early music is concerned, he has collaborated with the period instrument ensemble, Akamus Berlin.

INDRĖ BAIKŠTYTĖ (piano)

As a grandchild of the famous Lithuanian composer, Eduardas Balsys, she probably had only one viable career option before herself, that of becoming a musician. Her choice of piano is by no means accidental judging by her reputation in the eyes of audiences and critics alike. One of them was Edmundas Gedgaudas who has described her as “a generator of interpretational
ideas.”

She won first prizes and other trophies at international competitions in Canada, Romania and Ukraine. Together with her stage partner, violinist Rūta Lipinaitytė, she took second prize at the international competition for chamber duets in Sweden. In addition to that, she is a member of the FortVio Trio which has earned international acclaim through dozens of performances and trophies won in Europe and beyond. For its inspiring musical achievements, FortVio received the Culture and
Arts Prize from the government of Lithuania.

As a soloist, Indrė plays with various Lithuanian orchestras and instrumental groups and singers from different countries. She’s particularly well known as a performer of new Lithuanian music. She took part in the studio recordings of compositions by Anatolijus Šenderovas, Faustas Latėnas, and Šarūnas Nakas.
