Tchaikovsky's Wife’ is the most sensual and spectacular film of Kirill Serebrennikov.
Tumultuous  relationship  between  Pyotr Tchaikovsky, the most famous Russian composer of all time, and his wife Antonina  Miliukova.
The truth about Tchaikovsky’s homosexuality has been a well-known secret and a forbidden topic. This film opens the doors to this secret showing it not as malady, as it was considered at the time, but as a story of love and repressed lust, unveiling the struggles of the main characters while they battles their own doubts and demons.
This is a brave provocative sensation created with artistic style of a masterpiece. The costume design and score stand out on a technical level.

Film  follows the titular character from her days as an aspiring young musician, when she catches sight of the already famous composer and is totally enthralled, to the moment she convinces him to marry her, to the years afterwards when she loses both her husband and her mind. Love turns to obsession in an off-key marriage.
Alyona Mikhailova's heartbreaking performance as Antonina Miliukova helps guide the film.
Actress is tremendous as estranged wife Antonina, whose naivety and narcissism fester in the rubble of her marriage to the gay composer.

‘Tchaikovsky's Wife’ is an atmospheric, wonderfully edited intense drama that captivates the audience with extraordinary performance of Alyona Mikhaylova, whose approach to the role resembles the martyr’s intensity of leading actresses of Lars von Trier.
