Monday dance for babies
Monday dance for babies is a dance class for children of 8–14 months age and their parents or grandparents where they explore various objects and movements. Dancers-teachers lead them to dance world by trying different movements which develop coordination, balance and fine motor skills. These experiences will further lead into dance perception and interpretation, which might be expressed by children not only verbally, but also kinesthetically.
During the activities adults will find out how babies understand dance and how their express their understanding. For parents who care to nurture their children it is important to learn to notice their reactions as well as to wait for their answers which might be not verbal, but kinesthetic.
Dancers-teachers are well-known choreographers and pedagogues Birutė Banevičiūtė and Giedrė Subotinaitė, who for long time worked with children and gave seminars for teachers nationally and internationally (in Sweeden, Ukrain, Palestine and Belgium). B. Banevičiūtė owns a doctoral degree of social sciences after she delivered her thesis on children dance skills education. Currently they both work at the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences where they teach future dance teachers.
Adults who come to the Monday dance for babies should follow children age limits as this is very important for teachers to ensure quality of dance experience process. It is recommended to bring comfortable cloths suitable for moving. The length of the dance class is 45 min.
