The Golden Lion-winning opera-performance Sun & Sea, created by the three artists Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė, Vaiva Grainytė, and Lina Lapelytė, invites you to a sunny summer beach in Vilnius.
Acclaimed by international audiences, the piece transports the viewers to a sunny summer day on the beach, where holidaymakers dressed in brightly coloured bathing suits perform the usual beach routines and sing. Lying under the artificial sun on several dozen tons of sand, the summer vacationers share their daily worries, memories, the composition of sunscreen, and plans of making an omelette in the morning. The themes of climate change, corporeality and universal fatigue unfold in the work in a captivating and mildly ironic way.
Watching from a solar perspective above the stage, the audience observes the humans sunbathing on the sandy beach like an endangered species.
A special Lithuanian version of the work is being produced for the long-awaited performance in Vilnius, repeatedly postponed due to the pandemic.
Sun & Sea will be staged on 16-19 December in the former Vilnius Taxi Park (Pelesos St. 1 / Dariaus ir Girėno St. 2, Vilnius). In this exclusive venue with a unique architecture that suits the work exceptionally well, the spectators will be able to watch the opera-performance from several levels of the spiral ramp driveway.
