On the evening of 13 July, the Midsummer Vilnius stage welcomes a new artistic chapter for Monika Liu — a unique programme featuring strings and piano, with Motiejus Bazaras joining her on piano. It is an intimate, multilayered musical narrative that reveals a deep and finely shaped creative sound world of the artist.
Monika moves effortlessly across vocal registers, blending the softness of retro-inflected melody with contemporary production that sits naturally within her music. This combination resonates with listeners coming from many different musical backgrounds. The Western cultural landscape has shaped her artistic sensibility — creative encounters with international artists and her years in London have given her music a global yet authentic perspective. Vintage synthesizers, live-recorded instruments, and subtle modern textures converge in a sound that is both nostalgic and refreshingly current.
On stage, Monika Liu brings warmth, playfulness, and a disarming sincerity that turns her concerts into personal tales — intimate, dramatic, at times lightly ironic, and always genuine. The string arrangements allow her voice to unfold more fully, revealing new colours, textures, and emotional depth.
Monika Liu is one of the artists who has been part of the Midsummer Vilnius festival since its earliest moments. In 2016, she performed on stage as the festival’s atmosphere and the identity we recognise today were only beginning to take shape. Her return carries a sense of continuity and a warmly familiar homecoming.
