The International HIP HOP dance festival Urban Essentials presents HIT 7AYT حيث حايط) because of the wall). This is the continuation of the visual, long-term research project „Casablanca not the Movie“.
HIT 7AYT documents the city of Casablanca and its inhabitants, gestures, and choreographies of daily Moroccan life. Four dancers with roots in urban dance explore the public and private spaces in the city, separated and connected by the walls, as sites of observation and inspirations for movement. They open these spaces for the audience, offering a bodily vision of Moroccan culture and life in Casablanca.
HIT 7AYT explores the human connection, memories of family gatherings and meetings with friends or strangers. It introduces the audience to individual characters and street situations. It shares cultural codes and Moroccan movement heritage in an intuitive, organic, spontaneous, and sometimes humorous way. These codes, signs and movements of daily life are transformed to physical movements, into details and intentions, between reality and storytelling.
HIT 7AYT invites you to discover an artistic, urban, bodily vision of today’s Casablanca, far from orientalist and colonialist attributions but rooted in real-life experiences and inspirations.
