Rave and Riot – harmoniously complementary social realms where authentic individuality – the sense of I am myself – transforms into togetherness. Through mutually embodied behavior, the individual presence enters a collective zone, where one becomes part of the whole.

We are thrown into freedom. Condemned to be free. We can freely choose, but we cannot not choose. We collectively understand that our existence within the rave is based on free will. But can we also claim that being in a riot is a matter of choice rather than a psychological or social inevitability? Both of these social phenomena are unequivocally united by a shared desire – to break free. To sweat, to move rhythmically, to direct our bodies in a single direction. To clap, to chant, to shout and moan. To repetitively echo the beats of the heart, drums, bass, and breaking glass.

With this performance, creator Agnietė Lisičkinaitė continues her exploration – characteristic of her artistic practice – of how protest can be embodied through stage expression. Together with graduates of the Contemporary Dance program at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, she aims to create a continuous collective journey of movement toward liberation.
